Tech Meets Sustainability
A Smart Green Duplex Transformation in West Africa
In the ever-evolving world of architecture, projects that successfully blend technology, sustainability, and luxury are rare and powerful. This Cadright Architecture project is a shining example. Located in the heart of West Africa, this 5-bedroom smart green duplex was designed to replace an aging bungalow while reducing the building footprint, upgrading systems, and unlocking new landscaped potential on the same site.
From smart systems to solar-powered fencing, retrofitting to local material reuse, this home is proof that forward-thinking design is both practical and luxurious.
Project Overview
- Project Title: Smart Green Duplex & Sustainable Site Redevelopment
- Location: West Africa (confidential city)
- Project Type: Private Luxury Residence
- Services Rendered: Architectural Design, Project Management, Turn-key Delivery
- Completion Timeline: 8 Months
- Status: Completed
From Bungalow to Smart Eco-Duplex
This project began by replacing an existing 5-bedroom bungalow with a more efficient, vertical solution: a 5-bedroom duplex that uses only a fraction of the original site area. The new building’s compact footprint freed up space for:
- New landscaping zones
- Detached support facilities
- Stand-alone solar infrastructure
Instead of tearing down and starting from scratch, our team employed strategic deconstruction and retrofit techniques, allowing us to salvage existing services, reuse core site infrastructure, and recycle valuable materials.
A True Smart Home Experience
This home was equipped with a fully integrated smart audio-visual system, supporting:
- Whole-house surround sound
- Remote control lighting and security
- Energy-efficient air-conditioning automation
- System zoning for personalized comfort
Everything is controllable via mobile interface, reinforcing the home’s status as a true luxury-tech fusion.

Sustainable Additions & Smart Site Development
The project wasn’t just about the duplex. Cadright Architecture added several purpose-built site features, all guided by green and user-focused design:
- Detached 3-Bedroom Bungalow: Serves as guest/house help quarters
- Dog Pen: Shaded, ventilated, and discreetly placed
- Powerhouse/Gatehouse: Centralized utilities control point
- Solar-Powered Fence & Street Lighting: Stand-alone, off-grid, night-ready lighting system
Built Responsibly, Delivered Quickly
One of the standout aspects of this project was its commitment to environmental responsibility, especially during demolition and reconstruction.
- Retrofit-first thinking to minimize full demolition
- Deconstruction techniques to preserve usable components
- Relocation and reuse of utilities like septic, power channels, and paving stones
- Locally sourced finishes and structural materials
And despite the complexity, this entire project, from ideation to finishing was completed in just 8 months, thanks to efficient planning and project management.
