International Conference Centre—Awka
Smart Infrastructure in Landmark Civic Architecture
The Anambra International Conference Centre (ICC) in Awka is one of the region’s most ambitious civic projects. Designed as a 10,000-seat, multi-functional events hub, it’s conceived as a new landmark for the city, a home for conferences, civic events, exhibitions, and high-level gatherings.
Cadright Architecture was brought on board specifically for our technical expertise in ceiling installation, water treatment infrastructure, and porters’ station design, all of which are vital to the building’s functionality and sustainability.
Project Overview
- Project Title: Anambra International Conference Centre, Awka
- Location: Awka, Anambra State
- Project Type: Commercial/Civic Infrastructure
- Client: Ministry of Housing, Anambra State Government
- Services Rendered: Ceiling Design & Installation, Water Treatment Plant Design, Porters’ Station Drafting
Ceiling Systems & Acoustic Strategy
The ICC was designed with a tall atrium-style interior to support long-span auditoria and excellent acoustics.
We engineered and installed suspended ceilings that:
- Enhance acoustics for speeches, performances, and presentations
- Provide integrated lighting and HVAC access
- Conceal infrastructure while allowing maintenance access
By blending form and function, the ceilings contribute to the building’s performance, comfort, and visual identity.

Water Treatment & Sustainable Utility Planning
Given the ICC’s scale and versatile use, efficient water systems were essential. Cadright Architecture designed a modular water treatment plant to:
- Provide clean water supply for restrooms, kitchens, and cleaning bays
- Recycle greywater for landscaping and flushing systems
- Protect against supply shortages via on-site storage and treatment
Our system integrates seamlessly with civil works, ensuring a self-sustaining facility for large events with low environmental impact.
Porters’ Station—Smart Support Infrastructure
A functioning conference center needs reliable service zones. We designed the porters’ station with:
- Thoughtful spatial layout for baggage handling and guest movement
- Connections to back-of-house logistical routes
- Access to utilities such as water, electricity, and lighting
- Future-ready wiring for smart security, scheduling, and asset tracking
These support spaces help the ICC run smoothly during demanding events.
Smart & Sustainable Building Integration
While our focus was technical, we embedded civic-smart strategies in the infrastructure:
System Area | Smart Feature Planning |
---|---|
Environmental Control | Ceiling-integrated sensors for HVAC and lighting control |
Water Systems | Treatment control panel ready for automation |
Acoustic Monitoring | Ceiling cavities prepped for integrated mics or speakers |
Service Routing | Porters’ routes with potential for RFID tracking |
These systems allow the center to evolve into a smart, responsive urban asset.
Final Word
By providing expert ceiling systems, central water treatment design, and functional porters’ spaces, Cadright Architecture helped strengthen the ICC’s backbone, ensuring it not only looks impressive but also functions efficiently and sustainably.
This project underlines our ability to deliver specialized consultancy, even within large civic developments.
