List of Programs available for enrollment into the 2017/2018 academic session

1.0 CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The construction management program is aimed at imbibing the rudiments of managing a construction project into the student or professional. 

Duration of study : Six(6) months - Short internship, Twelve (12) months - professional internship

Mode of Study : Full Time; Practical

Curriculum includes: Preparing the bill of Quantities, Preparing the program of work, Building setting out, Staff management, Procurement and store-keeping, Site documentation, Modular Division of skilled & unskilled tasks,  Preparing staff payment schedule.

2.0 GREEN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY

This program was recently included in the curriculum in order to adress the need for awareness of green building principles and methods amongst buildng professionals. It is a basic requirement for enrolment into the professional L.E.E.D certification course.

Duration of study : Six(6) months - Short internship

Mode of Study : Full Time; Online or Practical.

Curriculum includes: Principles of Green building, Sustainable development methods, Material Recycle & Adaptive Reuse, Building Conservation, Deconstruction, Passive Energy Sources, Building life cycle cost analysis, Introduction to solar panels and inverters.

3.0 ARCHITECTURAL VISUALIZATION TECHNOLOGY

This program adresses the missing gap between manual and digital design presentation. Trainees are taught at least one design drafting application that broadens their graphic horizon.

Duration of study : One(1) month 

Mode of Study : Full Time; Practical

Curriculum includes: Complete Presentation & Working Drawings using Autocad, Archicad, Revit Architecture, Sketch-up, 3Ds max, Lumion 3D, Maya, Photoshop, Architectural Animation.

4.0 THE N.I.A PREPARATORY COURSE

The NIA preparatory class is meant for professionals who are about to sit for the professional practise Exam PPE. Past questions and Answers are provided with all-round guidance/mentorship by registered Architects.

Duration of study : One (1) month - extendable to six (6) months

Mode of Study : Full Time; Online or Practical

Curriculum includes: Seminar attendance, Guide to Associate membership registration, Project research & documentation, Guide to application for full membership, Portfolio design, Referees.

5.0 ENTERPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITIES IN THE BUILT INDUSTRY

This program prepares trainees for enterpreneurial possibilities within the construction field. Educated Artisans conduct practical tutorials on various vocational skills.

Duration of study : One(1) month - extendable to six(6) months

Mode of Study : Full Time; Practical

Curriculum includes: Block Industry operation and management, P.O.P ceiling & Parapet moulding technology, Basic electrical installation,Tiling technology and Aluminium framing technology.

6.0  INTERIOR DESIGN & FURNITURE CRAFT

    The art of making and arrangement of the interior of buildings. This is our most sought-after course, It covers the rudiments of space planning, color, texture, culture and perspective.

Duration of study : One(1) month - extendable to six(6) months

Mode of Study : Full Time; Practical

Curriculum includes: Architectural space allocation, planning and flexibility of interior spaces, furniture design using computer aided design tools CAD, prsentation drawings, material assignment & Cost.

7.0 PRACTICAL QUANTIFICATION 

This program exposes trainees to practical methods of quantifying a proposed building project from scratch to finish. This is quite extensive and cmprehensive as every element of the buiding is factored in.

Duration of study : One(1) month - extendable to six(6) months

Mode of Study : Full Time; Online or Practical

Curriculum includes: Entire building quantification, preparation of bill of quantities, Microsoft Excel, Project management.

8.0  BLOCK-LAYING & MASONRY 

Block Laying is focused on equipping the participants with the skills and knowledge to work in the building and construction of block making & masonry trade. The participants will learn how to make blocks, lay and bond bricks and similar building blocks and how to construct ornamental panels, feature walls, arches and columns. The trainee will also learn how to lay bricks for domestic, commercial and public buildings, as well as how to prepare and maintain masonry work. They will learn about the common materials of masonry construction which are bricks, stones, marble, granite, travertine, limestone, cast stone, concrete block, and tile. In addition, they will be able to read and understand design drawings and structural details to understand clearly the types of blocks to be used, their bonding patterns, reinforcing and grouting details and the relationship between the concrete masonry and other elements of the structure in hand.

The following modules will be covered:

Building Drawing, Basic Mathematics & Sciences, Technical Communication, Work Ethics, AutoCAD, Entrepreneurship, Basic Information & Communication Technology, Work-site Safety, Tools and Equipment, Masonry Materials, Layout and Procedures, Masonry Assemblies, Tiling, Scaffolding Erection, Wall System Design, Concrete Block Construction, Above Grade Masonry, Restoration and Repairs, Chimneys and Fireplaces.

9.0  FURNITURE

Furniture is a vocationally oriented programme intended to teach trainees the skills and knowledge necessary to begin a successful career as a cabinet or furniture-maker. The trainees will complete a series of projects of increasing complexity and detail, which will impart not only the techniques required to cut and process panels and solid stock, produce accurate joinery and assemble finished pieces, but also the skills required to do so in an efficient and cost effective manner. They will learn to work independently and also as part of a highly skilled team. Emphasis will be on safety, accuracy and efficiency in the techniques of contemporary woodworking.

The following modules will be covered: 

Engineering/Building Drawing, Basic Mathematics & Sciences, Technical Communication, Work Ethics, AutoCAD, Entrepreneurship, Basic Information & Communication Technology, Safety at Work, Material Calculations, Setting out and Drawing, Practical Skills, Alteration, Repair and Renovation.
